Triumph Rugby A letter from the Coach/Teacher/Mentor; Hi guys, just wanted to say thank you all for your help with this past fall and the successful rugby season we’ve had. To finish 3rd in the entire state of Utah proves to our students that when you work hard at something, good things happen. It also shows that they are NOT just a bunch of losers that came into custody together. It has taught them discipline, hard work, commitment, and brotherhood (values they have never obtained before). Our students have never had the opportunity like this, because they’ve been rejected by coaches and high schools due to their history or attitude. As we approach the spring 15’s season I wanted to inform you of a few changes that will occur. First: we will be doing mostly conditioning and circuit work outs to see which boys are really dedicated to this sport and our team. Second: all players will have to submit weekly progress reports (that I have) with signatures from school aid, therapist and director. These weekly progress reports will show that they are keeping good grades, progressing in individual and group therapy, and progressing in overall treatment. Third: this year I am really pushing academics and seeing that our players excel in the classroom. Giving our players the possibility of getting into college or getting them lined up before their senior year. This means ACT testing and practice tests for our boys. Lastly, I need all of you to hold our students accountable to these standards and commitments or it just won’t work. This means if they are playing rugby and we have practice, please do your part to get them there. I know it may be difficult at times because of ratio, or staffing issues but remember why we do what we do. We need to play that parent role as these boys are in our custody. Instead of looking at it as a chore, look at it as an opportunity for them grow. Mentor trips, social outings, home visits can be scheduled after or before games. I will adjust the practice schedule around group therapy and other programming issues as much as I can. We had a lot of players that missed practices and games because they were gone. Understand that all of our players are new to rugby, and even new to organized sports. I’ve seen so much growth from our players and it’s been very therapeutic for them and we’ve made it part of their treatment. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to field we work in and the lives you’ve touched along the way. Just one more example of the hard work and dedication of our Staff and our Students. We realize the significance of being involved in a team Sport for our Students. It can play a very important role in the healing process.
