Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is designed to help students resolve their internal conflict about change. Many young men enter treatment with resistance or uncertainty, and MI provides a non-confrontational way to explore those feelings. At Triumph, our therapists use this method to help students identify what matters to them and why they might want to make changes. MI is collaborative, not coercive—it respects the student’s autonomy while gently guiding them toward self-motivated decisions. This approach often serves as a turning point for students, helping them build internal motivation that drives deeper engagement in therapy, school, and life goals.
