Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Helping Young Men Regain Control Over OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety-related condition marked by intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or rituals (compulsions) meant to ease the distress those thoughts create. Teens with OCD often recognize that their thoughts or behaviors are irrational, yet feel powerless to stop them without proper support. These compulsions can interfere with daily routines, school performance, relationships, and self-esteem. OCD symptoms commonly fall into specific categories and can severely impact a teen’s emotional and social well-being without treatment.

Common Categories and Symptoms of OCD:

  • Checking – Repeatedly checking locks, appliances, or other safety measures due to fear of danger or harm

  • Contamination – Obsessive fear of germs, often leading to excessive cleaning or handwashing

  • Intrusive Thoughts – Disturbing or unwanted thoughts about relationships, religion, violence, or needing perfection

  • Hoarding – Inability to discard items due to fear something bad will happen

  • Counting & Symmetry – Obsession with order, symmetry, and arranging items “just right”

Teens with OCD may also experience:

  • Trouble concentrating at school

  • Avoidance of certain people, places, or activities

  • Physical complaints (stomachaches, headaches) due to stress

  • Problems in relationships or with social interaction

  • Difficulty controlling anger or emotions

  • Co-occurring mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression

At Triumph Youth Services, we specialize in helping adolescent boys navigate the challenges of OCD through evidence-based treatment and a structured, therapeutic environment. Our clinicians use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help students understand and change unhealthy thought patterns, reduce anxiety, and develop better coping skills. Through individual, group, and family therapy sessions, combined with our daily Life Skills Group and supportive peer culture, teens build the tools needed to manage OCD and lead healthier, more confident lives.
